Hook by ChaosAcathla Hook by ChaosAcathla
Colin O'Donoghue as Hook in Once Upon a Time (OUAT)

Painted in Photoshop CS6

I wanted to paint lots n lots of detail and go back to a more realism based style. It was a lot of fun, I really enjoyed this. I really like painting leather.

Used one pretty basic brush for nearly all of this.

Good for you, I hate drawing leather. You're good at it :) I especially love his left sleeve, all those wonderfully realistic creases! :D The lapels are also awesome. Anyway, I like the violet/pink tint to the lighting, makes it somehow more... villainous, heh. And I like all the details, you did such a lovely job on them - the vest (the pattern and all those buttons!) and the pendants and the rings. I like how you made the light catch in the metal - bright, but tarnished, feels nicely real :) Definitely a very cool piece, and I also like the pose, it gives an edge to the whole painting, something is happening here. That being said, I've always had a weird affinity for villains (Scar from The Lion King being my favourite, but that might just be Jeremy Irons talking. No wait, Loki is my favourite.), and Hook is no exception.

I just typed you out an awesome reply to this message and then my damn internet failed!
Needless to say there was much thanks involved!
One bit I will re type is, i'm really glad you mentioned the colour in the lighting since I was really careful trying to work out a colour palette that worked with the mood/scene I was trying to create!
In short: :glomp:

Ouch, I hear you, friend! It happens to me sometimes with comments! Da pain! Anyway, I'm glad you enjoyed my comment  And the colouring was the very first thing that stood out and attracted me in the thumbnail in the first place, by the way :) I'm about to upload a fruit of my own labour with colours, not particularly pleased with results.

Anyway - lovely picture, as always with you :)
